About
Ala-Kul is a mountain lake in the heart of the Terskey Ala-Too range, at 3,532 metres above sea level. Fed by glacial waters, the lake's emerald green colour forms a striking contrast with the snow-capped peaks around it. It is one of the most beautiful and most visited mountain lakes in Kyrgyzstan.
To reach Ala-Kul, you usually hike from the Karakol or Altyn Arashan area; the route is a popular trekking trail requiring moderate fitness and usually taking 2-3 days. Along the way you pass highland pastures, glacial valleys and nomadic camps. Camping by the lake and watching the sunrise is one of the most unforgettable experiences in the region.
