About
Bokonbayevo is a quiet town on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, home to one of the most impressive traditions of Kyrgyz nomadic culture: hunter eagle (berkut) shows. Eagle masters called berkutchi perform with their birds, and the sight of the eagles soaring through the air and catching their prey captivates the audience.
The town is named after the famous Kyrgyz writer Kasym Tynystanov (born 1901). Yurt camps are set up in Bokonbayevo, where traditional music and horse games are also performed. Besides the eagle shows, visitors can experience the region's warm hospitality and nomadic way of life up close.
